Van Horne Newsletter

By Mayor Marty Junge and Van Horne City Staff

April 2019
Greetings Van Horne Area Residents!

Well spring is trying to spring into gear after a nice couple of days, it is at least nice to go outside without winter coats on. Sometimes people do listen to suggestions, if you recall  at the DOT meeting in Blairstown last fall I was concerned that the median between lanes at the Hwy 30 and Van Horne, Blairstown intersection was going to be 60 wide, (not enough length for a semi to go half way across before entering traffic). I received a text message a week ago from Senator Kapucian that the DOT plans now include a 100-foot median at that intersection, which should make that a lot safer. Thank you to everyone involved.

Van Horne Mayor Marty Junge

The Ninja Obstacle coarse that is going to be installed in the park arrived this week, and the handicap merry-go-round is supposed to be delivered next week. We will ask for volunteers to help on the installation when a date has been set up.

The water looping project is underway and we hope we can complete it with minimal water shutoffs. We apologize right now  to the people living on the streets, it is going to be a mess for a while but hopefully finished and streets repaired in the summer. Speaking of streets, this winter put a hurt on a lot of city streets. Jared and Mike have already begun putting cold patch in some potholes and I’m sure that a lot more are going to show up.

There are going to be a lot of events happening in town over the coming months. Soccer has started on Saturday mornings, April 20 is the Easter egg hunt. Sally Donald Memorial Service will be at the Methodist Church on April 27.

The Lions will host a breakfast on April 28, June 1 are the town-wide garage sales, June 7 is the Relay for Life, and June 8 is the Park Dance. Hope to get good attendance at all events.

I was not going to even mention pets this month, but pet registrations have been coming in and I see people walking their pets with gloves and baggies. Thank you job well done.

We have lost another of our citizens due to a motorcycle crash Kevin Lauver the first week of April. Rest in Peace. Everyone please drive carefully and defensively and put the phone down.

Your thought for the month is a Chinese Proverb, The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.
Thanks and have a great rest of the month and also a great Easter. Your Mayor Marty.
