At Mount Mercy
Stars 5 Watkins 0
Austin Czerwiec of the Stars pitched a complete game shutout to pick up the win. Czerwiec has allowed about six earned runs for the season but this was his first win after four starts. The game was scoreless until the third inning. In the bottom of the third with two runners on base for the Stars Nolan Cavanaugh lined a ball to medium deep centerfield that got over the fielder’s head. The well hit ball turned into an inside the park three run homerun. Cavanaugh showed excellent speed as he rounded the bases to score. Czerwiec added a sac fly scoring fly to help his own cause Tyler Stern added two hits for the winners. The Mudhens had three hits for the game.
Stars 1 Watkins 0
The Mudhens failed to score again. The pitchers dominated the game. Watkins went down in order in innings one, two, five and seven. It was frustrating game for the Mudhens, who started the games in first place but ended the day with a 5-3 league record. Watkins got their first hit in the fourth inning and Luke Farley got that hit and added another hit in the sixth. Watkins sent five batters to the plate in the inning but a couple of fly ball outs ended the threat. The winning run for the Stars came in the bottom of inning seven. Cavanaugh led off the inning with a single and scored after an error and a game ending single by Graham Wood.
At Walford
Red Top 5 Walford 3
Colin Kreiter led the hitting attack for Red Top with two home runs and three RBI’s. Corey Graham had two hits as well for Red Top and a run scored. Tony Barecca continued his hot hitting for the season for the Walford Hogs. Barecca had two hits and scored two runs. Travis Reyhons had two RBI’s for the Hogs. Walford was never able to get the lead in the game as Red Top took a 3-0 lead into the third inning. Kreiter’s second homer in the sixth put the Hogs in a hole that they could not get out.
Red Top 2 Walford 1
Walford managed to outhit Red Top in game two with seven hits to five for Red Top. Mitch Moser pitched very well for Walford going the distance. Moser struck out eight giving up only two runs. Loston and Aros each picked up an RBI for the winners and that turned out to be enough. Ryan Hosch pitched very well for Red Top allowing just five hits in six innings. Caleb Fuller was the winning pitcher for Red Top in relief. He allowed two hits and two walks but a great double play that started with Red Top third baseman Nick Day saved the game for the Toppers.
