Greetings Van Horne Area Residents!

The warm weather has sure pushed the crops along, they seem to be growing at a fast pace now and by the time you read this there will be some tassels popping out on the corn. Sweet corn season is about here.

Well, attempt number two on the handicap merry-go-round was met with the wrong parts again, so we are in talks with the supplier to find out what we have to do next.

I need to thank the Floralia group for the flower pots on Main Street. They look amazing. Thank you.

I would also like to commend the Legion for the benches, they look nice and are built to survive. Thank you. It is the small organizations in our community that help things look nice and keep things up to date. They take pride in our community as do most residents. Clean up and fix up is always a continuing project if you own a house, and most residents do a great job of doing that. Thank you.

Another item that comes up are the trees over the sidewalks and streets hanging down. If you can’t walk under your trees by the sidewalk they need to be trimmed.

Also if you see busses or trucks rubbing the branches over the street they need to be trimmed. We have a brush dump to take the branches to. The brush dump is only for yard waste and branches, it is not a land refuge. We constantly have people dumping garbage and construction materials there. That is not what it is for, and if caught doing so you will be fined.

There are some residents that are pursuing a traffic sign that would show the speed of your vehicle and record date and time. No one would be able to ticket you from this device. Talk to your council members and let them know what you think before the next council meeting. The Legion

tenderloin and chicken suppers will start again on Monday, August 19th and continue on the third Monday of the month.

LIONS: Did you know that one of the main projects that the LIONS provide is eye screening? Recently the Van Horne LIONS provided eye screenings for 186 children (ages 6 months to school age) at day cares and pre-schools in our school district. There were seven referrals to specialists after problems were detected.

LIBRARY NEWS: August 1, 945 to 1045 a.m. Grout Museum putting on Super Cold with Liquid Nitrogen with ice cream at the end of the program.
