CITY OF LUZERNE COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS – THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 2019
The regular meeting of the Luzerne City Council was called to order by Mayor John Brandt, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Council members Dwight Glinsmann, Kelly Kendall and Lorin Potter were present, as was interested citizen Fran Potter. Council members Patrick McLeod and Barbara Shields were absent.

Glinsmann moved to accept the previous meeting minutes as read, seconded by Potter. Roll call vote – motion carried.
Kendall moved to allow the following bills, seconded by Glinsmann:
- J & R Sanitation – July pick-up $325.00
- Poweshiek Water 37.00
- Alliant Energy – meter $73.93, streetlights $288.33 365.26
- Jan Kendall- white envelopes, manila envelopes, clock, postage, garbage statements & 40 copies 22.25
- Schulze Mowing – 4X park mowing 280.00
- Schulze Mowing – 1X 209 E IA mowing 40.00
- Brian Mantz Graphics – 3 signs @ $425.00 each 425.00
- Lorin Potter-reimbursement for ground spray for ball diamond 11.00
Roll call vote – all ayes, motion carried.
The mayor reported the three welcome signs have been installed. The council thanked him for installing them.
The mayor opened discussion on properties in need of mowing. It was reported that 101 East Iowa Street needs to be mowed soon.
The clerk updated the council on the progress of hooking the city up to USA Communication’s fiber optic cable. The clerk reported she had emailed residents’ contacts information to the company at the company’s request. Residents and property owners should anticipate being contacted by the company in the near future to discuss whether or not service is desired.
The mayor opened discussion on the pool full of water. The mayor reported he has contacted the Benton County Sanitarian but hasn’t yet received a response.
The clerk gave an update on two residents’ request to put a pop machine outside of the fire station/city hall. The clerk reported the couple who proposed the idea had further questions for Pepsi and is waiting to hear back from them.
The clerk gave an update on having the damaged wall fixed in the community center. The clerk reported she had been in contact with the renter who caused the damage and the professional drywall installer who was hired by the renter. The wall should be fixed sometime next week.
The mayor opened discussion on whether to lock in an LP price. Council discussion followed. Potter moved to contract 1,600 gallons of LP for $1.26 per gallon for the upcoming heating season, seconded by Kendall. Roll call vote – all ayes, motion carried.
Under further business, the mayor brought thank you cards to be given to the individuals who volunteered time, equipment and materials for the culvert project on the east side of the park. The clerk reported nomination papers will be available from her from August 28 to September 19, 2019 for the offices of mayor and council.
With no further business on the agenda, Kendall moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:45 PM, seconded by Glinsmann. Roll call vote – all ayes, motion carried.
