Kirkwood to Host 33rd Annual CITA Fire School

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Sept. 16, 2019)-Kirkwood Community College will host the 33rd Annual Fire School, Sept. 21–22, in collaboration with the Central Iowa Training Association (CITA).

One of the largest fire schools in the state, the CITA-Kirkwood school trains firefighters and rescue service personnel from all over Iowa and other nearby states. A variety of one-day and two-day courses will be offered covering everything from agriculture-related emergency situations and modern-day home size-up, to fighting fires in buildings with suppression systems and understanding the family impact of being a firefighter.

“Everyone benefits from fire school training,” said Kim Fensterman, Kirkwood program coordinator. “Fire service personnel get to sharpen their skills, gain confidence and develop pride in their work. A well-trained force can better serve the members of its surrounding communities.”

This year’s training program will be held at the Kirkwood Continuing Education Training Center at 101 50th Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids, a new location from previous years. Various manufacturers and dealers will be on hand to assist with the fire school and answer participant’s questions on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Lunch is included in the price of tuition and will be provided to all participants.

Class sizes are limited and pre-registration is required. To register, visit www.kirkwood.edu/fireschool, or call 319-398-1022.
