A big first inning helped Williamsburg (23-4) to a win over Benton Community (15-9) Monday, July 20, at Williamsburg, in the regional softball final.
Williamsburg had 11 hits. Carly Campbell was 2 for 4 with a double and 1 RBI. Aubry Walters was 2 for 4. Olivia Stratton was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Elle Ridgeway was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs. Williamsburg stole 5 bases and had no errors. Freshman Peyton Driscoll threw 7 innings for the win, allowing 4 hits, 1 earned run, walking 4 and striking out 9. Williamsburg went to to place second at the state tournament.
Benton had 3 hits, with singles from Alyse Harvey, Gabby McKee and Jaida Lyons. Hope Moore had 1 RBI. The team had 4 errors. Losing pitcher Katelyn Buscher threw for 5 innings, allowed 10 hits, 8 runs (6 earned), walked 2, hit one batter and struck out 3. Eighth grader Jessa DeMoss threw 1 inning and allowed 1 hit.
