Top-ranked Marion (34-6) defeated Benton on Wednesday, July 21, at the Class 3A Substate 6 Championship in Marion, 14-1, in five innings.

Benton had three hits in the contest. Landen Schmuecker was 1 for 2 with a double and one RBI. Aiden Albertsen had a single. Cael Kaestner added on single. The team had 10 strikeouts and one walk. Benton had two errors. 

Cade Timmerman took the loss, throwing 2 1/3 innings, allowing 11 hits 10 runs (eight earned), one walk and no strikeouts. Jordan Thys threw for one-third of an inning, allowing one hit, four runs (none earned), and walking one. Lane Kaestner threw for one inning and allowed one hit, no runs and struck out two.
