Benton closed its regular season with a 6-0 loss to No. 8 Davenport Assumption (22-12). The Bobcats were held to three hits. Easton Patterson was 2 for 3 with a double. Lane Kaestner added a single. The team had three errors. Lane Kaestner threw for two innings, allowed three hits, one run, and struck out four. He took the loss. Drew Fillenworth threw for two innings, allowed two hits, one earned run and walked one. Adam Roos allowed three runs and walked three. Ryan Finn threw for two innings, allowed one hit, one earned run, walked one and struck out one. Benton had eight strikeouts.

Benton had five hits. Wyatt Rinderknecht had a solo home run. Easton Patterson was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Drew Fillenworth was 2 for 3 with one RBI. Blake Daugherty added one RBI. The team had one error. Jordan Thys threw for seven innings, allowed four hits, no runs, hit one batter and struck out 10.

Action continues Monday, July 10, in Van Horne when Benton hosts Cedar Rapids Xavier (17-19) at 7 p.m. Xavier defeated Keokuk (8-15) on July 7.

Benton had 12 hits in the contest. Emma Townsley was 2 for 3 with a triple and one RBI. Hope Moore was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs. Ana Glawe was 2 for 3 with a double. Jessa DeMoss had a home run and two RBIs. Hannah Greiner had two RBIs. Fionna McCleod had a two-run home run. Benton had no errors. Jessa DeMoss threw for seven innings, allowed one hit, walked no one and struck out five.

No. 6 Benton (27-14) won in Class 3A regional action on Saturday, July 8, in Van Horne over No. 15 Sumner-Fredericksburg (26-7).

Benton had six hits. Layna DeMoss was 2 for 4 with a double. Getting singles were Emma Townsley, Hope Moore, Jessa DeMoss and Jaida Lyons. The team had no errors. Jessa DeMoss threw for nine innings, allowed four hits, no runs, walked three, hit one batter and struck out 11. Sumner-Fredericksburg had four errors.

Benton hosts No. 7 Mount Vernon (27-10) on Tuesday, July 11, in Van Horne. The regional final game starts at 7 p.m.

Belle Plaine (10-9) lost in Class 1A Region 4 baseball action to No. 9 Lisbon (23-4) on Wednesday, July 5, at Lisbon. Belle Plaine had four hits. Jack Schwenn had a double and two RBIs. Connor Timm stole two bases. Belle Plaine had four errors. Keaton Parrott started on the mound took the loss, throwing for 5 1/3 innings, allowing three hits, five runs (four earned) four walks and striking out six. Ty Alcott threw for two outs, allowing two hits, two earned runs, walking two, hit one batter and struck out two.

Lisbon’s Hunter Clark threw for six innings, allowed five hits, three earned runs, walked three, hit one batter and struck out 10. Cohen Kamaus threw for one inning, allowed no hits, hit one batter and struck out one.
