Benton Community (28-14) defeated Mount Vernon (27-11) in the regional final, Tuesday, July 11, 2023, in Van Horne.

Benton had six hits. Jessa DeMoss was 2 for 3. Hannah Greiner had a double and one RBI. Layna DeMoss had a home run and three RBIs. Calista Nolte had one RBI. Fionna McCleod stole one base. Benton had three errors. Jessa DeMoss threw for seven innings, allowed four hits, two earned runs, walked one and struck out six for the win.

Mount Vernon had five hits. The team had five errors. Hayden Gookin threw for six innings, allowed five hits, eight runs (one earned), walked four and struck out four.

Benton advances as the sixth seed to the state tournament, with the first game at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, on the Iowa Central Field in Fort Dodge. They face third seed Dubuque Wahlert (31-8).

Other teams advancing are Williamsburg (33-9), Albia (21-8), Davis County (24-4), Estherville Lincoln Central (31-3), Davenport Assumption (32-6) and Saydel (23-6). The games are at Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex.
