September 2023
It’s been apparent for a while that our trash hauler, EZ Trash, has been about the last local holdout allowing garbage collection in most any container we set at the curb. They came to us at the September council meeting and proposed moving to wheeled receptacles on January 1, 2024 – as well as bi-weekly recycling pickup instead of weekly. The council approved the proposal. To answer questions and help residents decide which container is right for them, EZ Trash will be hosting two public information meetings: October 5th, from 4:00-8:00 and October 7th from 10:00 to 2:00 at the Community Center.
During a recent inspection of ash trees on city property, it was recommended that dead or dying ash trees around town be removed to eliminate these habitats for the Emerald Ash Borer and help give the remaining trees a fighting chance. A quick survey found over 25 such trees in that category. Additionally, dead and dying trees pose a danger to people and property below, so if you’re in this group, please consider having yours removed ASAP. There are plenty of good, local tree removal companies if you’d like to hire it done.
As I mentioned in last month’s letter, election season is upon us, with the Mayor and two council seats on the ballot. If you’re interested, pick up a packet in the City Hall lobby and return it by 5:00 on Thursday, September 21st.
Lastly, don’t forget the Sons of the Legion return this month with their sandwich supper on Monday the 18th from 5:30 to 7:30 and the Lions Breakfast on Sunday the 24th from 8:30 to noon. See you there!
