VINTON – It was routine business for the Benton County Board of Supervisors when they met Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, at the service center in Vinton.
A land use hearing was set for Ryan and Jennifer Rozek, for land in Section 16, Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 9:15 a.m.
The board accepted the resignation of Lindsey Upah, effective Sept. 8, 2023.
The board approved the canvass of the special election in Newhall.
A utility permit was approved for GenoSource in Leroy Township.
A proclamation was approved for National Voter Registration Day.
A Class C Retail Alcohol License was approved for Textile Brewery, LLC, Oct. 13 to 17.
Grace Petrzelka, Public Health Director for Benton County, talked about cross-coverage for public health and environmental health, focusing on who would help if Petrzelka is ever gone. She asked for a budget amendment for just over $69,000, to help in the hiring of one more staff member.
Mona Onken and Sarah Wagner gave an update on social services in Benton County and the regional approach to social services. Wagner has been working on cases in Benton County and Iowa City.
The board went into closed session with Benton County Attorney Ray Lough, pursuant to Iowa Code 21. 5(1)c: To discuss strategy with counsel in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent where its disclosure would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the governmental body in that litigation.
