Van Horne Community Newsletter

October 2023

October this year seems to have something for everyone – a welcome change in the weather after a hot, dry summer and a lot happening around town.

For the Trick-or-Treaters, you can check out the Van Horne Economic Development Halloween Bash on Sunday the 29th – downtown from 3:30 to 5:30. Two days later, the Lions Club is having their annual Halloween party at the Community Center starting at 5:00.

Plenty of chances to get out and see your neighbors:

  • Sons of the Legion Sandwich Supper on October 16 from 5:30 to 7:00
  • Lions Club Breakfast on October 22
  • Community Potluck on October 31 at Noon
  • Townwide Trick or Treating on October 31 following Lions Halloween Party
  • FFA Breakfast on November 19, followed by bingo from 1:30 to 3:30

As a reminder, the city is moving to trash and recycling collection in rolling cans provided by EZ Trash. If you haven’t let them know your preference between a 95- or 65-gallon can for both trash and recycling, you can call EZ Trash at (319) 521-6928, or City Hall at (319) 228-8238.

Don’t forget to get out and vote on November 7th!
