January 8th, 2024
Regular meeting of the Norway City Council was called to order by Mayor Loras Schulte at 5:00 PM. Roll Call – Present: Robby Miller, Terry Pickart, Christopher Van Horn, and Mike Schulte. Absent: Kelly Luedtke
Motion to accept agenda, minutes, claims, and treasurer’s report presented made by R. Miller and seconded by C. Van Horn. Motion carried 4-0.
A budget workshop was conducted. The next budget workshop was scheduled for January 29th, 2024, at 5:30pm at the Norway Public Library.
Motion R. Miller seconded by C. Van Horn to approve changing the start time of council meetings from 5:00pm to 5:30pm. Motion carried 4-0.
City staff are working to obtain estimates to cap well #3, located near the city shed on South St.
City officials are working with the DNR to request a verbiage change, to address existing but unused water hookups, in the DNR’s original letter stating the requirement for the city of Norway to install a pressure booster system.
The company hired to install the pole for the emergency siren has a work order to complete the project.
The city is taking the necessary steps to be able to begin pouring the concrete pad for the power generator for the fire station. Also, please ensure you have completed and returned the random income survey to City Hall if you received one. A second mailing followed by phone calls are likely. The income surveys, upon completion, would help the City in receiving a $500,000 block grant to go toward the cost of the pressure booster system.
Nuisance properties including, but not limited to, 105 E. Washington, 118 Euclid, 409 Park Dr, and 115 E. Railroad St are being handled by the city’s attorney and the court.
Council concerns included – Putting irregularly scheduled garbage pick-ups on the sign in front of City Hall, parking issues around town which will be on the next meeting’s agenda, abandoned properties, speeding on Railroad St, quarterly report from the Benton Co. Sherriff, water usage at the baseball field, & the park director position as well as outdated park equipment.
Motion to adjourn at 6:04pm made by M. Schulte and seconded by C. Van Horn. Motion carried 4-0.
