Benton boys’ lose in WaMaC basketball to Center Point-Urbana

Benton was 19 of 49 for field goals, 5 of 19 for three-pointers and 3 of 5 for free throws. The team had 32 rebounds, 13 assists, five steals, 13 turnovers and 14 fouls. CPU was 18 of 53 for field goals, 5 of 16 for three-pointers, and 8 of 14 for free throws. They had 32 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 steals, four blocks, nine turnovers and eight fouls.

Wyatt Rinderknecht led Benton with 15 points. Kolby Wenger added 13 points. Ryan Spina had eight rebounds. Caron Nolan had seven rebound and four assists. Wenger had three steals. Cooper Grimm and Jackson Brincks led CPU with 11 points each.

Independence was 22 of 55 for field goals, 6 of 24 for three-pointers, and 15 of 22 for free throws. They had 42 rebounds, 19 assists, six steals, five blocks, 13 turnovers and 18 fouls.

Quincy Gilbert led Benton with 20 points. Nolan had six rebounds. Gavin Brooks had four assists. Nolan had two steals. Wenger had one block. Aidan Bernard led Independence with 16 points.

Class 3A District 4 tournament play begins on Monday, Feb. 19, when Benton travels to Assumption (12-8). The game starts at 7 p.m.
