Land use, exemption approved by Benton Supervisors

VINTON – Land use and bridge work were the main agenda items for the Benton County Board of Supervisors at their meeting Tuesday, March 19, at the service center in Vinton.

A land use hearing was held for Dave and Paula Weber for land in Section 10, Taylor Township. This is for a pole barn with living quarters. This is timber area and does not have high quality farmland. The application was approved. 

A farm exemption application was approved for Kenneth and Carol Popenhagen for land in Section 4, Fremont Township. The exemption was approved. They will build a home there. 

The board approved the second tier canvas of the special Benton Community School Election, for votes in Benton, Iowa and Tama Counties. 

Cecilia Dirks was appointed as an alternate to the ECICOG Regional Trails Committee.

A hearing was set for next week to have Aaron Boddicker take possession of 24th Ave. Drive in Harrison Township. 

Final vouchers were signed for Bridge Deck Replacement Project BHS-SWAP-C006(118)- -FC-06, and Twin RCB Culvert Replacement Project BROS-SWAP-C006(109)- -FE-06.

Service area amendments were approved by the board. 

Supervisor Tracy Seeman gave an update on floor damage at the law enforcement center, affecting the sheriff’s office and Emergency Management office. This led to a discussion of the impact of the drought on Benton County, with soil shrinkage and calls for conservation.

There was also discussion on having the human resources director give exit interviews with people who resign, as well as a clarification on who gets the original documents from board meetings.
