Belle Plaine native John “Nash” Villers donates music awards to his hometown

BELLE PLAINE – Nashville musician and Belle Plaine native John “Nash” Villers recently donated his two Australian trophies to Belle Plaine Area Museum, one for Songwriter Of The Year and the other for Song Of The Year.

Two plaques and a picture of him performing are now on display in the music room at the museum.

Tasmania Australia OZCMR Country Music Radio recognized Villers as International Songwriter of the Year in 2021, with six No. 1 songs, including “Slow Down Cowboy,” “Bikinis are Bloomin’,” “Swimmin’ Pool Hill” (a song about Belle Plaine’s actual swimming pool), “If Love Went Viral,” “Waiting in the Wings” and “Liquid in a Bottle.”

Slow Down Cowboy” easliy won Song of the Year after spending six weeks at No. 1 and charting for 36 weeks.

Villers will be in town for not only the 4th of July celebration, but for his 50th class reunion as well. Villers is a 1974 graduate of Belle Plaine High School and currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee where he continues to perform and write new material.
