Ames, Iowa – Olivia Hanson, from Benton County, was awarded the All Iowa Shaver Memorial 4-H Scholarship through the Iowa 4-H Foundation at the recognition ceremony on Sunday, July 14 in Ames.

One hundred and one Iowa 4-H scholarships valued at over $106,000 were awarded as a part of the Foundation’s scholarship recognition ceremony. Over 450 applications were submitted, and scholarships have been awarded to recipients from 56 counties across the state of Iowa with a wide variety of 4-H experiences.

Serving on the Benton County 4-H Youth Council inspired Olivia. The member’s passion, excitement, drive and commitment to improve the county’s 4-H program was palatable. Working together at events like the County Fair, completing service projects and seeing how the council’s leadership impacted other 4-H members are wonderful memories for Olivia. Serving on the Benton County 4-H Youth Council provided Olivia community, connection, and an opportunity for service and impact.Olivia will be at ISU focusing on Agricultural and Life Science education.

“Iowa 4-H Foundation scholarships acknowledge the hard work and dedication of young people who have used their 4-H skills and experiences to ‘make the best better’ for others,” said Emily Saveraid, Executive Director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. “We also are thankful for the many scholarship donors who fund these important opportunities for Iowa 4-H’ers.”

Provided by the endowment established in memory of Chuck & Kathy Shaver.  This scholarship is for any graduating high school senior in the state of Iowa with a high school GPA 2.5 or above, attending any accredited school in the U.S. that provides post high school education, including trade/technical school, junior college, four-year university, or seminary school.  Applicant may puruse any field of study and should show leadership skills in at least one extracurricular activity and a history of volunteering for a charitable organization.
