Supervisors met on October 29

VINTON – The Benton County Board of Supervisors acted on sheriff’s employees, fireworks and conservation at their meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at the service center in Vinton.

The Iowa Pyrotechnic Association requested a fireworks permit for Nov. 16, since the current current permit was suspended due to the burn ban. It is assumed the burn ban will be lifted by November. The permit was approved, pending approval by the fire chief.

The board accepted the resignation of the full-time communication specialist, Crystal Northup. They approved hiring her as a part-time food service custodian. Beginning wage is $19.51 per hour.

Shelby Williams gave the annual report for Benton County Conservation. They also talked about getting a truck for integrated roadside management. It will be equipped with spray equipment.

Supervisor Tracy Seeman gave an update on the radio communication project, stating that he felt the process is getting dragged out. Final acceptance might not happen until January.

The meeting closed with discussion with a resident on truck traffic on a gravel road. Chairman Richard Primmer said he’d check with the sheriff.
