Shelby Williams of Benton County Conservation presented handbook changes for Jan. 1, 2025. There are no new or drastic changes, according to Williams. Changes deal with e-cigarettes and smoking, sick leave and wording for donated leave. The board approved the changes.
A Class C Retail Alcohol License was approved for Walnut Ridge Venue LLC.
The Engineer Myron Parizek received approval for removing a bridge embargo for a bridge on 17th Ave. in Big Grove Township.
Reviews were held with Ben Turnis, information technology, and Grace Schmidt, public health director. Both reviews were in open session. The board asked about goals with Turnis. One goal is getting the sheriff’s department looped into all of the county’s departments. They also talked about space needs.
Schmidt said she has done her review with the board of health. Supervisor Gary Bierschenk asked about the vaccine program. She said the vaccines for children have officially been approved. The participation numbers have been good working with schools. Supervisor Richard Primmer said he’d like to see the health department get involved with the county’s wellness program on simple things like blood pressure and heart rate checks. Wellness helps with getting health insurance discounts, Primmer pointed out.
