OBITUARY – Delane (Homer) and Elaine Schultz

Delane “Homer” Schultz, 87, and Elaine Schultz, 81, built their home in Atkins in 1965. Homer operated a small engine repair business from home. He was also active in stock and modified hydroplane racing. This grew into boat and motor work also.

In 1980 he began Schultz Marine. As this grew he moved to CR in need of more room. During this time he was also working at Rockwell Goss, but as his business grew he retired from Goss to focus on boats and motors.

During this time Delane and Elaine also purchased several rental buildings. Together they managed and cared for these over the years.

Elaine was active in the Atkins community for many years. She was an active member and a past president of the Atkins Women’s Club. She was a boy scout leader and worked with the softball teams. She was an avid bowler for many years. She was employed at Nissen Mfg. until she retired to help Delano with the Marine bookwork and upkeep.

Being involved with his boat racing hobby she became a chief judge and scorer. Their boating friends meant a great deal to them.

Delano passed away suddenly. Elaine passed away after her battle with lung cancer.

They are survived by their two sons, Doug 56, and his wife, Dawn, Pompano Beach, FL, and Dave, 54, Cedar Rapids.
