28E agreements approved for patrol in communities in Benton County

VINTON – It was another routine meeting for the Benton County Board of Supervisors when they met Tuesday, May 20, at the service center in Vinton.

Eric Nelson and Michael Root were approved as Keystone First Responder representatives on the EMS Advisory Council. 

A cigarette permit was approved for Kimm’s Mini Mart.

Priyal Patel was approved as an intern for the Benton County Attorney’s Office. She starts June 2 and will work to the second week of August. The cost to the county is $5,000. 

A special Class C Retail Alcohol License was approved for M&M Taphouse LLC. This is a five-day permit. It is July 18 to July 22.

A resolution was approved for Wellness Incentive Day. 

28E law contracts were approved with the sheriff’s department and area communities. The contracts were for Luzerne for $1,690, not to exceed 0.5 hours per week; Garrison for $10,140 and no more than three hours a week; Atkins for $60,840 and no more than 18 hours a week; Urbana for $40,560 and no more than 12 hours per week; and Shellsburg for $67,600 and not to exceed 20 hours per week. Contracts go into effect on July 1.

A land use hearing was held for Garrett Kotouc for land in Section 27, Monroe Township. This is for a single family dwelling and a garage. It is about four miles west of Garrison. A conforming driveway will be installed. It has no negative impact on surrounding farm operations, according to Matt Even of the land use office. The land use change was approved unanimously.

Taxes were abated on two parcels in Atkins that are owned by the City of Atkins. 

The meeting closed with discussion on the legislature and bills that concern them. They talked about funding for the E-911 bill. 

Engineer

The board approved removing a bridge embargo on 16th Avenue Drive in Taylor Township. 

A 28E Agreement was approved along Benton-Linn Road north of Atkins with Linn County. This is a sealcoat project that meets with Ellis Boulevard.

Permanent and temporary agreements were approved for a bridge replacement projection on 69th Street in Fremont Township.

Permanent and temporary agreements were approved for a bridge replacement on 16th Avenue in Cedar Township.

Engineer Myron Parizek gave an update on the Van Horne/Blairstown intersection on Highway 30. Once the additional light is working and the stop sign is lit, they will work to get rid of rumble strips and install “mumble” strips.
