VINTON – Several agreements were approved for the Benton County Sheriff’s Department at the Tuesday, July 1, 2025, meeting of the Benton County Board of Supervisors, at their meeting in Vinton.
Sheriff
The sheriff’s department had several items on the agenda.
The supervisors approved entering into 28E between Benton County and Polk County for housing inmates.
The board acknowledged Mark Johnson’s retirement from the Sheriff’s Department. His end date is Aug. 8. His last working date is July 4.
The board entered into 28E(s) between Benton County Sheriff’s Office and City of Vinton, City of Belle Plaine and City of Urbana for dispatch services.
The board approved entering into 28E(s) between Benton County Sheriff’s Office and City of Vinton, City of Belle Plaine and City of Urbana for sharing law enforcement mental health liaison services.
Engineer
The board approved the Utility Permit for Farmers Mutual Telephone in Monroe Township. They are extending their service into Monroe Township.
The board approved the Utility Permit for MidAmerican Energy in Eden Township. This is a gas pipeline.
They discussed the Van Horne/Blairstown Corner on Highway 30, regarding lights and rumble strips.
Other business
The board approved the fireworks application from the Watkins Community Athletic Association on July 5. The rain date is July 6.
In business with the Benton County Historical Society Preservation Board, they approved a contract for Terry Phillips for consulting services for a restoration windows workshop.
They also discussed terminating the contract for the CLG (Certified Local Government) Grant.The board chair signed the letter of termination for the grant.
