VINTON – The Benton County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the Benton County Service Center in Vinton.
A land use hearing was set for Tuesday, Aug. 5, 9:15 a.m., for Jeremy and Stacy Koopman for land in Section 33, Benton Township.
The board accepted the resignation of Jennifer Zahradnik from the Benton County Solid Waste Commission and Civil Service Commission.
The board tabled the contract between Benton County and ISG Group Inc. for gas line inspection. It is on the agenda for July 15.
A public hearing was set for Aug. 5, 2025, for FY 26 budget amendment.
The board approved the resolution for wage and classification change for Donald Erger in secondary roads.
The board approved claims, minutes, the treasurer’s semiannual report, and the sheriff’s quarterly report.
An update was given on lighting for the Van Horne/Blairstown intersection with Highway 30. The intersection is getting a stop sign light with a sensor that activates the light when a vehicle is sensed. Engineer Myron Parizek said they hope to work around this so the light is consistently blinking.
Parizek added the Department of Transportation questions the need for the flashing light on the stop sign, since there are already flashing “Stop Ahead” signs. Supervisor Ron Tippett said that because of the amount of school traffic the road has, they should do as much as they can for that intersection.
