VINTON – It was routine business for the Benton County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the Benton County Service Center, Vinton.
The board approved vacation for Grace Schmidt of public health. Vacation carryover was also approved for Rick Wood of maintenance.
The board approved Resolution #25-61, designating voting representatives for the Iowa State Association of Counties. It is mainly elected officials who are representatives for Benton County, along with some department heads.
The board approved Resolution #25-62 Local Option Sales and Service Tax Gifting/Loan.
The board approved hiring Cheyanne Packer, full-time communications specialist at the sheriff’s office.
The board approved a fireworks permit for Karen Petersen on Aug. 2, 2025. This is planned at Bloomsbury Farm.
A closed hearing was held for job evaluation of Barb Fetzer, Benton County Land Use and Health Department. After the hearing, the board made a motion to give a verbal warning to Fetzer. No other action was taken on her evaluation. The motion was approved.
Supervisor Chairman Tracy Seeman said he has been working with the state on the Van Horne/Blairstown intersection with Highway 30. He said things will start moving faster on this than the last 12 months. He observed, “You know, government moves slow and I’m not one for moving slow. So, if people know me, you know, I’m working as hard as I can.”
The board approved EMS (Emergency Management Service) claims.
