VINTON – It was routine business for the Benton County Board of Supervisors when they met Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Benton County Service Center in Vinton.

A land use hearing was set for Tuesday, Sept, 9, at 9:15 a.m. for Ryan and Jennifer Rozek, for land in Section 16, Benton Township.

A land use hearing was held for William Hines for a residence in Section 25, Taylor Township. The site is two miles east-southeast of Vinton. Hines asked why he had to pay a $500 application fee to put up a house where a house used to be. Hines stressed, “That’s my property.” Barb Fetzer of the land use office explained the preexisting status is gone after three years, so he had to reapply. It’s part of an ordinance to promote orderly growth. The land use change was approved.

The board discussed additional office space for Abbe Center at the Benton County Service Center. The board approved setting the monthly rental rate to $850 per suite.

The board approved hiring Alyce Lynch as a full-time clerk in the auditor’s office. The salary is $40,000. This replaces a clerk who had retired.

Vacation carryover was approved for Dean Vrba of Benton County Transportation.

The board approved a resolution committing funds in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) 54.

Reports were given on the mental health board, job description for sanitarian and land use administrator, wellness, conservation and weed spraying.
