SUPERVISORS: Board works on weeds, beer tent, tax abatements and bridge replacement

VINTON – The Benton County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, at the Benton County Service Center, Vinton.

A Special Class C Retail Alcohol License was approved for the Blairstown Sauerkraut Days Beer Tent, Aug. 27 to Aug. 31. 

The board approved Resolution #25-70 LRFT Grant Funding for Benton County IRM (integrated roadside management) department. This is for a second sprayer. 

The board approved a revised contract with ABBE Center leasing office space at Benton County Service Center.

The board approved the job description and job posting of Environmental Health/Land Use Administrator. It is posted on the county’s website. This is a joint position with the county and board of health.

The board acknowledged receipt/filing by City of Walford regarding the City of Walford Voluntary Annexation Resolution No. 8-25-1.

A land use hearing was set for Jearid Merchant for land in Section 30, Benton Township. The hearing is Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 9:15 a.m. 

The board approved Resolution 25-71, Abatement of Taxes on Parcel numbers: 010-32850, 010-32630, 210-17730, 270-04580, 350-13951, 440-10640, 550-01651, 550-01301, 840-02110, 840-03410, and 030-15410. The abatements total $2,718.

Engineer

The board approved awarding Bridge Replacement Project BROS-C006(125)—8J-06 on 69th St (Fremont Township) in Iowa Department of Transportation August 19 letting to Taylor Construction Inc. of New Vienna. This is just north of Atkins.

The board designated the county engineer to execute the contract for this.

The board awarded RCB Culvert Replacement Project BROS-C006(129)—8J-06 on 52nd St (Polk Township) in the Iowa DOT August 19 letting to Iowa Bridge & Culvert, LC of Washington. This is close to the Cedar Valley Nature Trail. Parizek was designated to execute the contract.

-The board received a petition, contract and waiver for sealcoat project along 32nd Ave. and 74th and 75th Street. This involves Pete’s Hill Addition and Southern Exposures.

-Parizek updated the board on the Van Horne/Blairstown intersection with Highway 30. Parizek said he is waiting for confirmation from the state’s traffic technician. He is expecting to hear from the DOT this week.
