ATKINS, Iowa – Iowa State Representative Tom Gerhold (R-Atkins) announced he will seek another term in the Iowa House of Representatives in House District 84. Gerhold first began serving in the Iowa House in 2019.

“It is my honor to serve the people of eastern Iowa and the great state of Iowa in the House,” Gerhold said. “We’ve accomplished many great things to keep Iowa moving forward like providing historic tax relief, increasing government efficiency, and standing strong for rural Iowa. I’m running for re-election in 2026 to continue my work for Iowa families and taxpayers.”

Speaker Pat Grassley (R-New Hartford) expressed his support for Representative Gerhold.

“House District 84 is fortunate to have Representative Gerhold serving as their voice in the Iowa House,” Grassley said. “With a distinguished track record of public service, Tom doesn’t just represent his constituents—he champions them. His years of experience and common-sense approach are exactly what we need at the Capitol to keep Iowa moving in the right direction.”

Representative Gerhold was first elected to the Iowa House in 2018. During his time in the Iowa House, Tom has been a leading advocate for accessible and affordable healthcare, Iowa outdoor recreation, and Iowa families. He serves as the Vice Chair of Environmental Protection Committee as well as on the Agriculture, Labor and Workforce, Veterans Affairs, and International Relations Committees. Additionally, Gerhold serves on the Administrative and Regulation Appropriations Subcommittee.

Gerhold is a Benton County native, growing up on his family’s farm near Atkins and attended Benton Community High School before pursuing a career in medical research at Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa. Today, he is a research associate at the University of Iowa’s Carver College of Medicine. He resides in Atkins with his wife, Julia.

Gerhold represents House District 84, which includes the majority of Benton County and northwestern and southwestern portions of rural Linn County.
