Initial campaign gifts include transformational $3 million donation from the Tippie family
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (March 31, 2026)–The Kirkwood Foundation has announced the public launch of “The Community’s College – The Community’s Future,” a $15 million fundraising campaign to expand scholarships, enhance healthcare programs, and strengthen the workforce across Kirkwood Community College’s seven-county service area.
The campaign has already raised $11 million–75% of its goal–demonstrating strong early momentum and community investment in Kirkwood’s impact.
“This campaign is about more than fundraising–it’s about creating opportunity and strengthening the communities we serve,” said Kirkwood Vice President of Advancement Jody Pellerin. “Because most of our graduates stay and work in this region, every gift supports not only our students, but also local employers, healthcare systems, and the long-term vitality of our communities.”
The campaign focuses on five key priorities:
- Scholarships – Including expanded access for diploma and certificate programs
- The Student Success Fund – Designed to provide support for students beyond tuition
- Healthcare Programs Technology – Upgrades to increase student job readiness
- English Language Acquisition – Create additional classes to support this pressing local need
- An Innovation Fund – Envisioned to help launch cutting-edge programs
These investments are designed to remove barriers for students while addressing critical workforce needs, particularly in high-demand fields like healthcare.
A $1 million Match Challenge for Presidential and Leaders for Tomorrow Scholarships provides a unique opportunity for donors to double their impact. All living Kirkwood presidents have contributed at a Leadership Level, underscoring the importance of investing in future student leaders and expanding access to high-quality education.
The campaign is led by a transformational $3 million gift from the Tippie family, with additional major support from private and corporate donors. A full list of Leadership Level donors is available on the campaign webpage. Community members can support the campaign through financial contributions, matching gifts, or by sharing the campaign’s impact within their networks.
