She led her high school team to a state title, and led her college team to the college world series for softball.

Amber Fiser was back home in Benton on June 26 to throw out the first pitch for the Lady Bobcat softball game against West Delaware.
Coach Eric Stenberg introduced Amber, pointing out the honors Amber received in her junior year at Minnesota. He opened with her high school career, recalling her state record for 19 strikeouts in the state championship game. She was captain of the all-tournament team.
In college, Stenberg that she went to Minnesota. She was twice named national pitcher of the week, and six times named the Big 10 pitcher of the week. She was first-team all-Big 10 and All-American. She had a season record of 31-9, and an ERA of 1.27. She threw 346 strikeouts. Her record ranked here third in the NCAA, fifth in strikeouts and 12th in ERA. She is also one of four players in the country to be named for the Honda Award.
He added, “Amber is not only a great pitcher. She is also a great person. She’s been a role model, not only for our players, but other community members. Her story is one that I hope young people of all ages look up to in trying to aspire what Amber has done. It’s been through hard work that Amber has accomplished what she has accomplished. It didn’t come easy. She worked her tail off.”
He said the entire State of Iowa was watching and cheering on the Gophers in the college world series. She has the honor of throwing the first pitch at a Minnesota Twins game. Stenberg that night did it one better by having Amber throw the first pitch, and then, throw another pitch blindfolded.
Amber signed autographs and met with fans before and during the game in Van Horne. She commented, “I just want to say thank you to all of the people that came out and showed their support tonight, not only for me but for the benton team as well. It’s amazing being able to come back to my home grounds and having so many people that I never thought that would watch me, and tell me that they followed me all season and had a great year. Going into my senior year, I’m looking forward to the records that Minnesota can continue to break and hope to continue adding things to our history. This team is like family and that’s truly something that’s so special, making it a team you’ll remember for a lifetime.”
