BC closes Friday after threat is made

This is a message from the Benton Community School District.
The District has been made aware that an unidentified individual made a threat that an act of violence would occur at a District school building tomorrow, Friday, November 15. The District takes any threat of violence very seriously, and this is no exception. The District has been working closely with the FBI and local law enforcement to assess the situation and to determine the best course of action to protect the safety of students and staff members. The District will continue to assist the FBI and law enforcement as they investigate this situation, and will provide additional information to the BCSD community as soon as we can.
The District’s highest priority always is the safety of its students and staff members. Therefore, District administration has determined the best course of action is to cancel all District activities, including home and away practices, games, and any other activities, starting at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, through Sunday, November 17. Consequently, the District is cancelling school for all grade levels on Friday, November 15. No students, staff members, or members of the public will be allowed in any school building during this time.
The District anticipates that all students will return to full school activities on Monday, November 18. The District administration will provide another message confirming this on Sunday afternoon. The District administration also anticipates providing parents with talking points they can share with their students to discuss what has occurred. We appreciate the support of the BCSD community as we take steps to ensure the safety of our students and staff members. We understand that the members of the BCSD community may have questions. If you do have questions, please contact the attendance center your student attends.
