
VAN HORNE – With the 2020 session coming soon, Benton Community School Board members and school officials met with their state senator, Tim Kapucian, R-Keystone, at work session held Monday, Jan. 6, in Van Horne.
According to school board notes, the topics of discussion included Highway 30 construction, land use policy at county level, behavior in classrooms and impacts on student learning, PETR fund, timelines for bonding and new election process, increased costs of new election format, family mental health, early intervention and summer reading programs, student life experiences and post secondary education opportunities, land use waivers, school finance formula, census process and expectations, IASB legislative priorities, setting of SSA early in legislative session, Benton County demographics, school capacities, growth on eastern end of school district.
Senator Kupucian shared that this would be his last session with the legislature. Dr. Pam Ewell and President Pat Stepanek thanked Kapucian for his service and years of updates to the Benton CSD School Board and Community.
