Belle Plaine picked a home win over Colfax-Mingo, 48-43, in SICL boys’ basketball action. Luke DeMeulenaere led Belle Plaine with 18 points. Ben DeMeulenaere added 13. Ben also had 8 rebounds. Lance Van Nevel had 7 assists and 4 steals. Ben DeMeulenaere and Van Nevel blocked 1 shot each. The team was 19 of 46 from the field, 1 of 7 for three-pointers and 9 of 11 for free throws. A strong second half from Belle Plaine helped the Lady Plainsmen to a conference win on Jan. 14 against Colfax-Mingo, 41-37. Bree Shaull scored 14 for Belle Plaine. Alyssa Tegeler added 11. Tegeler also had 16 rebounds. Olivia Bohlen added 9, and had 8 assists and 4 steals. Each blocking one shot were Jacy Gates, Mandy Chizek, Bohlen and Tegeler. Benton cruised to a 66-30 win over South Tama in WaMaC girls’ basketball action Jan. 14 at home. Jenna Twedt scored 23 for Benton. Kayla Lambe added 10. Lauren Woeste had 9 rebounds. Twedt had 4 assists. Alyse Harvey had 5 steals, as did Emma Von Ahsen and Twedt. Blocking one shot each were Mallory Thys, Lambe and Grace Embretson. Benton racked up another WaMaC win, defeating Independence, 52-29, at Van Horne on Jan. 16. Jenna Twedt led Benton with 25 points. Lauren Woeste had 8 rebounds. Twedt also had 3 assists. Alyse Harvey had 6 steals. Woeste blocked 2 shots. The team was 20 of 44 for field goals, 7 of 18 for three-pointers and 5 of 15 for free throws. They had 30 rebounds. COMPLETE STATS.
