Emma Von Ahsen led in scoring for Benton with 12 points. Alyse Harvey had 8 rebounds. Jenna Twedt had 4 assists. With 2 steals each were Harvey, Kayla Lambe and Grace Embretson. The team was 17 of 51 for field goals, 8 of 22 for three-pointers and 11 of 15 for free throws. The team had 33 rebounds. QuikStats. Benton (13-9) closed its season in the first round of the 3A girls’ basketball tournament, 59-56, to WaMaC rival Williamsburg (8-14) at Williamsburg on Feb. 15. Freshman Jenna Twedt scored 24 for Benton. Alyse Harvey added 10, with three three-pointers. Lauren Woeste had 8 rebounds. With 2 assists each were Twedt, Mallory Thys and Harvey. Woeste also had 2 steals. The team was 20 of 53 for field goals, 7 of 19 for three-pointers and 9 of 17 for free throws. The team had 34 rebounds. Quik Stats. Williamsburg was 19 of 37 for field goals, 4 of 10 for three-pointers and 17 of 21 for free throws. They had 19 rebounds.

Belle Plaine closed its season on tournament action at Marengo on Thursday, Feb. 13, losing to Iowa Valley, 39-26.

Leading the team with 9 points each were Jacy Gates and Alyssa Tegeler. Tegeler also had 8 rebounds. Olivia Bohlen had 6 assists. Gates had 6 steals. Bohlen blocked 6 shots. Tegeler blocked 5 shots. The team was 10 of 45 from the field, 0 of 13 for three-pointers and 6 of 17 for free throws. The team had 35 rebounds. Quik Stats. Iowa Valley was led by Taylor Smith with 13 points. They play Springville on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Liberty High School.

BELLE PLAINE BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Friday, Feb. 14, 2020 at Lone Tree

Belle Plaine’s boys’ basketball team closed its regular season Friday, Feb. 14, with a non-conference loss to Lone Tree, 83-72, at Lone Tree. Ben DeMeulenaere led Belle Plaine with 24 points. Noah Bachelder added 21, including 5 three-pointers. Ben DeMeulenaere also had 17 rebounds. Trevin Straight had 6 assists. With two steals each were Straight and Bachelder. Blocking one shot each were Lance Van Nevel and Ben DeMeulenaere. The team was 24 of 57 for field goals, 5 of 15 for three-pointers and 19 of 30 from the line. The team had 34 rebounds. Quik Stats.

Benton (7-12) lost in WaMaC boys’ basketball action, Friday, Feb. 14, on the road at Marion (16-4), 70-53. Turner Schroeder led Benton with 13 points. Clay Krousie added 11. Grant Embretson had 8 rebounds for Benton. Brady Sadler had 5 assists. Embretson added 4. With 2 steals each were Schroeder, Krousie and Aiden Harris. Embretson blocked 3 shots. The team was 17 of 54 from the field, 5 of 24 for three-pointers and 13 of 21 from the line. The team had 29 rebounds. Quik Stats. Marion was 26 of 58 for field goals, 7 of 24 for three-pointers and 11 of 15 for free throws. Marion had 31 rebounds.
