Benton (7-13) lost in the closing week of the regular season to WaMaC boys’ basketball rival, Clear Creek Amana (16-5), 74-58, at Van Horne.

Turner Schroeder led Benton with 18 points, including 3 three-pointers. Grant Embretson added 14. Schroeder had 12 rebounds. Brady Sadler had 3 assists. Drew Lange had 3 steals. Embretson blocked 4 shots. The team was 21 of 68 for field goals, 8 of 27 for three-pointers and 8 of 10 for free throws. Benton had 36 rebounds. Quik Stats. CCA was 23 of 51 for field goals, 7 of 10 for three-pointers and 21 of 28 for free throws. The team had 34 rebounds. Tyler Schrepfer led CCA with 17 points.

Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, at Independence

Turner Schroeder led Benton with 18, aided by Grant Embretson with 14 and Blake Osborn with 10. Osborn had 8 rebounds. Brady Sadler had 7 assists. Schroeder had 3 steals. Embretson blocked two shots. The team was 25 of 42 for field goals, 10 of 18 for three-pointers and 9 of 16 for free throws. The team had 30 rebounds. Quik Stats. Independence was 18 of 53 for field goals, 5 of 27 for three-pointers and 6 of 9 from the line. The team had 24 rebounds.

Benton (8-13) travels to DeWitt on Monday, Feb. 24, to face Xavier (10-11) in tournament action. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. The winner plays the winner of the Central DeWitt (16-5) vs. Maquoketa (5-16) game on Thursday, Feb. 27, at Central DeWitt.

Belle Plaine was led by sophomore Ben DeMeulenaere with 21 points. Luke DeMeulenaere added 18. Ben DeMeulenaere also had 14 rebounds. Trevin Straight had 7 assists and 4 steals. Ben DeMeulenaere blocked 3 shots the team was 32 of 61 in field goals, 4 of 13 for three-pointers and 4 of 7 for free throws. The team had 39 rebounds. Quik Stats. Waterloo Christian was 13 of 57 from the field, 3 of 22 for three-pointers and 7 of 13 for free throws. The team had 23 rebounds.

Belle Plaine (17-5) plays Don Bosco (16-5) on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Alburnett, at 6:30 p.m. The winner plays the winner of the Alburnett (15-7) vs. Wapsie Valley (15-7) game on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. at Union.
