Atkins responds to COVID-19

City of Atkins, Iowa COVID-19 Response

Based on the Governor’s recent announcement of “substantial community spread of COVID19 in the state,” the City of Atkins is taking the following steps to protect public health:
Please call 911 for emergency medical calls.

  • Atkins City Hall and other City buildings and facilities are closed to the public until further notice. City employees and volunteers may be present to continue operations. Outside visitors are not allowed to enter public buildings at this time.
  • The City is prioritizing plans and efforts for its Local Law Enforcement, Fire, Water,
    and Sewer Departments.
  • City phone numbers and email addresses are currently operational and are staffed
    during regular business hours. City Hall phone number 319-446-7870 is available
    during normal working hours of 7:30 am and 4:00 pm. Please leave a message if staff
    is not immediately available.
  • The City Park Pavilion is closed until further notice. Refunds will be provided contact
    City Library at 319-446-7676.
  • There are no plans at this time to significantly modify services related to Local Law
    Enforcement and the Atkins Fire Department.
  • The Atkins Public Library is currently closed until further notice.
  • All City board, commission, and committee meetings are canceled until further
    notice. Atkins City Council Meeting March 16 at 7:00 pm will be held. The public
    hearing March 16, at 7:30 pm will be held.
  • Recreational event schedules will be controlled by the respective organization that
    conducts the event. Those organizations are encouraged to follow the Iowa
    Governor’s guidelines related to COVID-19 policy.
  • All water meter shutoffs and late fees are temporarily suspended to encourage safe
    and sanitary practices. Emergency water meter service will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
  • The City has been in contact with other utilities and providers such as Waste
    Management for garbage collection. Waste management operations are being
    conducted normally.
  • We strongly recommend conducting business with the City over-the-phone or online.

    City Hall, or online via the web site – bill pay.
  • We encourage you to practice social distancing, wash your hands regularly, stay home if you are sick, and stay updated with the latest official, trusted guidance from these sources:
