In a special meeting, April 16, the Belle Plaine Community School District Board of Education approved the hiring of Ryan Devereux as grades seven through 12 principal.
Originally from the Iowa City area, Devereux is a graduate of Regina High School, Iowa City. After high school, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell College, then spent 12 years as an economics and business teacher at Denison Community Schools. During his tenure at Denison, he also served as cooperative work coordinator and a building team leader while coaching football, wrestling and track.
He then earned a master’s degree from Concordia University in Nebraska and has spent the last four years as the assistant principal and curriculum director at Beckman Catholic High School in Dyersville. His duties here included leading professional development, evaluating teachers and managing student discipline.
Ryan and wife Susan have four children, Patrick, 8; Krista, 6; John, 2, and Margaret, 1. The couple are active participants in their Catholic parish and the Boy Scouts. He has helped coach youth sports in the past and enjoys trout fishing, reading and biking.
“I am ecstatic for the opportunity to serve as the 7-12 principal for Belle Plaine Community School District,” he notes. “The outreach of the community to welcome my family and me has been phenomenal. We look forward to beginning new chapters in our lives as Plainesmen.”
