Belle Plaine opened its 2020 football season with a 20-0 non-district loss to Lisbon, in a game played Aug. 27 at Cornell College, Mount Vernon.

Lisbon was 4-5 last season. Belle Plaine was 7-3.

Luke DeMeulenaere rushed for 38 yards on 14 carries. He also had 8.5 tackles with 0.5 for loss. Jack Schwenn had 5 tackles with 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss. Carson Adams had 2 tackles for loss. Luke DeMeulenaere returned two kickoffs for 44 yards. Jaxon Kressley had one punt return for 18 yards. Ben DeMeulenaere had two punts for 69 yards. Luke DeMeulenaere had 3 punts for 95 yards.

The team had -4 yards passing with one interception and 22 yards rushing.

Lisbon’s Gavin Wollum was 5 of 12 for 36 yards in passing. Max Kohl rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Cole Clark caught two passes for 15 yards. The team had 207 yards rushing and 36 yards.
