BP volleyball teams competes in season opener at Meskwaki tournament

Belle Plaine’s volleyball team traveled to the Meskwaki Settlement in their season opener, Saturday, Aug. 29. Belle Plaine lost to Roland-Story, 2-0, and to Vinton-Shellsburg, 2-1. They defeated host Mewskaki Settlement, 2-0. They also went 2-0 against Ankeny Christian and Colo-Nesco.

Against Roland-Story, the team had seven kills. With two each were Alyssa Tegeler, Nicholaa Phillppe and Grace Bean. Mandy Chizek had 7 assists. The team was 13 of 17 in serves with no aces. Kieran Holmberg was 4 for 4. Holmberg had six digs. Phillippe had five.

Belle Plaine lost to Vinton-Shellsburg, 2-1. The team had 14 kills, led by Grace Bean with 5. Phillippe had 4. Chizek had 12 assists. Belle Plaine was 38 of 41 in serves with two aces. Chizek was 10 for 10. Phillippee was 13 of 13 with two aces. Phillippe had 10 digs. Holmberg and Bean had seven digs each.

Belle Plaine cruised by Meskwaki Settlement, 2-0. Belle Plaine had 18 kills, led by Tegeler and Bean with four each. Chizek had 17 assists. Belle Plaine was 39 of 41 in serves. Holmberg was 13 of 15 with 3 aces. Phillippe was 10 of 10 with four aces. Bean was 4 of 4 with one ace. The team had 10 aces. With three digs each were Abbie Miller and Bean.

They defeated Ankeny Christian, 2-0. The team had 16 kills, led by Phillippe with five. Chizek had 15 assists. Bean and Tegeler had six digs each. Belle Plaine was 38 of 41 in kills with five aces. Holmberg was 4 of 4 with one ace. Miller was 7 of 7 with one ace. Chizek was 7 of 7 with one ace. Bean was 8 of 10 with one ace. Jacy Gates was 4 of 4.

Against Colo-Nesco, the team had 19 kills, led by Tegeler with six. Phillippe added five. Holmberg had four digs. The team weas 36 of 39 in serves with 10 aces. Chizek was 11 of 11 with four aces. Bean was 8 of 8 with one ace. Phillippe was 7 of 8 with three aces. Tegeler was 4 of 5 with two aces. Holmberg was 3 of 4. Miller was 1 of 1. Gates was 2 of 2.

The team plays Saturday, Sept. 4, at Vinton-Shellsburg, starting at 9 a.m.
