Benton and Belle Plaine get district wins in football

Belle Plaine picked up a district win at home, Friday, Sept. 11, when they defeated North Tama, 26-6, in Class A high school football action.

Ben DeMeulenaere was 6 of 8 in passing for 51 yards. Belle Plaine rushed for 300 yards. Luke DeMeulenaere rushed 33 times for 205 yards and three touchdowns. Ben DeMeulenaere rushed seven times for 39 yards and a touchdown.

Luke DeMeulenaere caught three passes for 20 yards. Jaxon Kressley caught three passes for 31 yards.

Chase Wickwire had 5.5 total tackles, with four solo tackles. Wickwire also recovered one fumble. Ben DeMeulenaere had one interception. Luke DeMeulenaere returned two punts for 41 yards. Xander Osborne had five kickoffs for 117 yards. Luke DeMeulenaere had one punt for 50 yards.

North Tama had 33 yards in passing and 101 yards rushing.

Belle Plaine (2-1) travels to BCLUW (0-2) Friday with a game starting at 7 p.m.

Benton Community won in overtime, 14-13, Friday, Sept. 11, as Class 3A district football play began.

Benton passed for 30 yards. Colin Buch was 5 of 10 with 23 yards and three interceptions. Aiden Thompson was 1 for 2 for 7 yards and one touchdown.

Benton had 112 yards rushing. Buch carried 13 times for 47 yards. Cade Timmerman rushed four times for 17 yards. Thompson ran once for two yards. Lawrence Wallace ran 12 times for 46 yards.

Sam Wallace caught one pass for 18 yards. Jacob Brecht caught four for six yards and had one touchdown. Lawrence Wallace caught one for six yards.

Austin Roos had 10 total tackles, with nine solo tackles. Tyler Atkinson had two interceptions for 15 yards and one touchdown. Jacob Brecht returned one kickoff for four yards. Landon Schmuecker returned two punts for six yards. Luis Hernandez had two kickoffs for two yards. He also made two points after touchdown. Buch punted five times for 128 yards.

Oskaloosa had 82 yards passing and 45 yards rushing. Cooper Spry had three interceptions.

Benton (2-1) travels to Clear Creek Amana (1-2) on Friday, Sept. 18.
