One is killed in accident Wednesday morning

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a fatal accident on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 7:37 a.m., involving a school bus.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2004 Dodge Caravan was northbound on V-44, one-half mile north of Highway 30. A 2019 Bluebird school bus was southbound. The patrol states the van dropped off of the shoulder multiple times, overcorrected and crossed into the path of the bus, striking the driver’s side of the van. The driver of the van was deceased on arrival. The bus driver was not injured. Five juveniles on the bus received minor injuries. Their names will not be released.

The patrol was assisted by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Belle Plaine Fire Department, Keystone Fire Department, Belle Plaine Ambulance and the Department of Transportation. The investigation continues.
