Benton wins first round of 4A tourney

Benton 25-25-25, Washington 14-6-10

Benton Community (11-24) swept Washington (4-20) Tuesday, Oct. 21, in the first round of Class 4A volleyball tournament action in Van Horne, 3-0.

The team was 24 of 86 in serves with 13 errors. Grace Embretson had nine and Addison Phillips added seven. Embretson had 10 assists. Kiah Coffin had seven. The team had 20 service aces, with only three errors in 74 attempts. Embretson had nine aces. Phillips had four. With three each were Emma Townsley and Caitlin Keiper. Townsley had seven digs.

BC loses to Western Dubuque

WD 25-25-25, Benton 4-14-10

The season ended Thursday, Oct. 22, when Benton (11-25) lost to Western Dubuque (23-10) in three sets.

Kiah Coffin had six assists. Grace Embretson added four assists. The team was 12 of 77 in kills with 15 errors. With four kills each were Addison Phillips and Embretson. Olivia Janss had eight digs. Embretson had six. The team was 27 of 30 in serves with one ace. Emma Townsley was 5 of 8. Phillips was 1 of 1. Sarah Gorkow was 1 of 1. Caitlin Keiper was 8 of 8 with one ace. Embretson was 7 of 8. Coffin was 3 of 3. Piper Nelson was 27 of 30.

Western Dubuque will host Dubuque Wahlert (7-17) on Tuesday, Oct. 27 for the Region 7 championship in Class 4A.
