Benton Community’s Lady Bobcats opened their season with a road win at Beckman, 61-50, on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020, highlighted by a 22-12 fourth quarter rally.
Benton was 22 of 50 for field goals, compared to 20 of 53 for Beckman. Benton was 11 of 29 for three-pointers, led by Jenna Twedt, who was 9 of 19. Benton was 6 of 14 at the line. Beckman was 5 of 8. Benton had 23 rebounds and Beckman had 31. The team had 13 turnovers.
Twedt scored 25 for Benton. Grace Embretson added 17. Alyse Harvey and Twedt had five rebounds each. Twedt had eight steals and six assists.
The game against Maquoketa, scheduled for Dec. 4, 2020 at Van Horne, was postponed.

Benton’s boys’ basketball team opened WaMaC play and its season with a 73-47 loss to Beckman, Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020, at Van Horne.
The Bobcats were 17 of 41 from the field, 4 of 15 for three-pointers and 9 of 14 for free throws. Benton had 26 rebounds and 23 turnovers. Aiden Harris had 13 points for Benton. Colin Buch added 10. Harris also had seven rebounds. Buch had three assists.
Beckman was led by Mason White with 31 points. They were 31 of 59 from the field, 4 of 15 for three-pointers and 7 of 11 for free throws. Beckman had 22 rebounds and five turnovers.

Benton traveled to Maquoketa on Friday, Dec. 4, and lost in WaMaC action, 84-63. Colin Buch led Benton with 23 points. Noah Franck had 14, including 4 of 7 shooting for three-pointers. Nate Polansky had 11. Aiden Harris had 10 rebounds. Polansky had two steals. Owen Sadler blocked two shots. The team was 21 of 51 for field goals, 10 of 24 for three-pointers and 11 of 14 for free throws. The team had 30 rebounds and 21 turnovers.

Benton had 24 rebounds and 12 turnovers. Grinnell was 36 of 62 for field goals, 6 of 13 for three-pointers and 2 of 12 from the line. Owen Coffman led Grinnell with 16 points. The Tigers had 43 rebounds and 9 turnovers.
