Benton Community traveled to Mount Pleasant and picked up a non-conference win, Monday, Dec. 14, in girls’ basketball action, 52-42. Grace Embretson led Benton with 16 points and nine rebounds. Jenna Twedt had six assists. Embretson had four steals. The team was 17 of 52 from the field, 3 of 22 for three-pointers and 15 of 31 for free throws. The Lady Bobcats had 37 rebounds and nine turnovers. Mount Pleasant was 13 of 44 for field goals, 0 of 5 for three-pointers and 16 of 24 from the line. The team had 37 rebounds and 18 turnovers.

Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, at Williamsburg

Benton Community’s girls’ basketball team (5-0) traveled to Williamsburg on Tuesday, Dec. 14, and earned one more conference win, defeating Williamsburg, 67-59.

Jenna Twedt led Benton with 19 points. McKenna Kramer added 18 and Grace Embretson had 10. Twedt also had eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. The team was 17 of 53 for field goals, 8 of 31 for three-pointers for 4 of 8 shooting by Kramer, and 25 of 35 for free throws. The team had 38 rebounds and 12 turnovers.

Williamsburg (2-3) was 22 of 69 for field goals, 6 of 28 for three-pointers and 9 of 18 for free throws. Williamsburg had 49 rebounds and 19 turnovers.

Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, at Van Horne

Vinton-Shellsburg (7-1 handed Benton Community (5-1) its first loss of the season in WaMaC girls’ basketball action, Friday, Dec. 28, at Van Horne.

Jenna Twedt scored 11 for Benton. Grace Embretson had seven rebounds and four assists. McKenna Kramer and Twedt had four steals each. The team was 17 of 54 for field goals, 7 of 26 for three-pointers and 6 of 14 for free throws. Benton had 31 rebounds and 15 turnovers. Vinton was 21 of 48 for field goals, 4 of 13 for three-pointers and 7 of 14 for free throws. The team had 36 rebounds and 23 turnovers.

Benton travels to Center Point-Urbana on Tuesday, Dec. 22, to close the 2020 part of it season.

Benton lost in non-conference boys’ basketball action Monday, Dec. 14, at Mount Pleasant, 53-33. Aiden Harris led Benton with 15 points and seven rebounds. With two steals each were Colin Buch and Harris. Kyler Mahan blocked one shot. The team was 11 of 34 for field goals, 2 of 13 for three-pointers and 9 of 12 for free throws. The team had 23 rebounds and 15 turnovers.

Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, at Van Horne

Williamsburg topped Benton on Tuesday, Dec. 15, in WaMaC boys’ basketball action at Van Horne, 68-54.

Aiden Harris had 17 points for Benton. Nate Potansky added 12 and Colin Buch added 10. With four rebounds each were Harris and Kyler Mahan. With two assists each were Buch and Isaac Cretin. The team was 19 of 45 for field goals, 8 of 22 for three-pointers and 8 of 13 for free throws. The Bobcats had 19 rebounds and 20 turnovers. The Raiders were 25 of 60 for field goals, 12 of 27 for three-pointers and 6 of 6 for free throws. The team had 39 rebounds and 13 turnovers. They were led by Derek Weisskopf with 25 points.

The Friday, Dec. 18, game against Vinton-Shellsburg was postponed. Benton hosts Center Point-Urbana on Tuesday, Dec. 22, to close the 2020 part of their season.
