VINTON – The Benton County Board of Supervisors took care of yearly business, routine business and looked ahead to the next fiscal year as it continued its budget work at their Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, meeting at the service center in Vinton.
A land use hearing was set for Tuesday, Feb. 9, 9:15 a.m., for Benjamin Rabe for land in Parcel A, Section 33, Leroy Township.
Donna Higgins with the AARP requested use of the service center during tax season. They help people with low incomes with their taxes. She hopes to use the center two days a week. Work will begin in February. More information is coming. They plan to use the volunteer program office space.
Township officials for Cedar, Fremont, Homer, Kane, Monroe and Union were approved.
An employee position change was approved in the sheriff’s office for Dorothy Wild. They also approved Jerry Bascom Jr. as a part-time jailer.
The budget amendment hearing was set for Jan. 26.
Isaac Harthoorn was appointed to the Pioneer Cemetery Commission.
Katherine Chamberlain was appointed to the Integrated Roadside Vegetation Committee.
Melody Snow of Vinton Unlimited was at the meeting to encourage the courthouse take part in promoting the “City of Lights.” They plan to put up lights at the courthouse during the holiday season.
Budget work included the treasurer’s office, Veterans Affairs, engineer, weed commission and recorder.
Ben Bonar was appointed as weed commissioner.
In engineer business:
The board approved temporary road closure for bridge construction on 22nd Ave. in Cedar Township.
They acknowledged the resignation of William Garbers.
Approved vacation carryover for Myron Parizek.
Approved hire of office manager in secondary roads.
Approved Iowa Department of Transportation Pre-construction Agreement No. 2021-C-029 for Primary Road Project NHSX-150-2(28)—3H-06 (resurfacing Highway 150).
