Benton Community’s girls’ basketball team (6-4) traveled to Waverly-Shell Rock (9-2) on Monday, Jan. 11, in non-conference action, losing, 56-35.

Zoey Junge scored 12 for Benton. Alyse Harvey had six rebounds. Jenna Twedt had three steals. The team was 11 of 46 from the field, 6 of 25 for three-pointers and 7 of 14 from the line. Benton had 27 rebounds and nine turnovers. Waverly was 21 of 41 for field goals, 1 of 6 for three-pointers and 13 of 17 for free throws. Waverly had 31 rebounds and eight turnovers. Abbie Draper had 22 for the Go-Hawks.

Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021 at Tama

Benton Community picked up a WaMaC win on the road, defeating South Tama in girls’ basketball action Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Tama.

McKenna Kramer and Junge led Benton with seven points each. With six rebounds each were Twedt, Grace Embretson, and Junge. Twedt had five assists and five steals. The team was 22 of 60 for field goals, 6 of 29 for three-pointers and 5 of 13 for free throws. The team had 43 rebounds and 10 turnovers. South Tama was 10 of 35 for field goals, 3 of 11 for three-pointers and 5 of 9 for free throws. The team had 23 rebounds and 24 turnovers.

Benton (7-4) hosts Center Point-Urbana (10-3) on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 7:30 p.m. They host Williamsburg (5-7) on Friday, Jan. 22, at 7:30 p.m. The girls host Union (1-10) on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 3 p.m. in non-conference action.

Benton traveled to Vinton on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, and lost in WaMaC boys’ basketball action. Blake Daugherty scored 21 for Benton. With eight rebounds each were Aiden Harris and Noah Franck. Colin Buch has six assists. The team was 15 of 34 for field goals, 8 of 22 for three-pointers, including 5 of 10 shooting by Daugherty, and 10 of 16 from the line. The team had 31 rebounds and 25 turnovers.

Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021 at Van Horne

A fourth-quarter rally fell short as Benton lost on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at home to South Tama, 47-44, in WaMaC boys’ basketball action. The team was 14 of 48 for field goals, 9 of 33 for three-pointers and 7 of 12 for free throws. The team had 29 rebounds and 14 turnovers. Daugherty led Benton with 15 points. Harris had nine rebounds. Isaac Cretin had four assists and two steals. Harris blocked one shot.

Friday, Jan. 15, 2021 at Van Horne.

Benton hosted Independence in WaMaC boys’ basketball action on Friday, Jan. 15, losing to the Mustangs, 49-44. Blake Daugherty had 13 for Benton. Aiden Harris has six rebounds. The team was 15 of 37 for field goals, 6 of 17 for three-pointers and 8 of 9 for free throws. The Bobcats had 23 rebounds and 19 turnovers.

The Bobcats (0-12) travel to Center Point-Urbana (5-6) on Tuesday, Jan. 19, and to Williamsburg (5-7) on Friday, Jan. 22. They play Union (4-7) on Saturday, Jan. 23, at home at 5 p.m.
