Belle Plaine hosted East Marshall (3-7) in non-conference boys’ basketball action on Monday, Jan. 18, and lost, 58-34.

Ben DeMeulenaere scored 16 for Belle Plaine and had 13 rebounds. Eli Ehlen had four steals. DeMeulenaere also had four blocks. The team was 10 of 41 for field goals, 3 of 19 for three-pointers and 11 of 19 from the line. The team had 30 rebounds and 19 turnovers.

Ben DeMeulenaere led Belle Plaine with 22 points and 20 rebounds. Jackson Tegeler added 13 points, including 3 of 7 shooting for free throws. Eli Ehlen had four assists. DeMeulenaere also had two steals. The team was 21 of 43 for field goals, 5 of 16 for three-pointers and 15 of 28 for free throws. The team had 41 rebounds and 17 turnovers.

The Belle Plaine Plainsmen faced a tough Keota (13-1) boys’ basketball team on Friday, Jan. 22, and lost in SICL action, 54-40, at Keota.

Ben DeMeulenaere scored 24 and had 13 rebounds. Jaxon Kressley had three assists. DeMeulenaere had three steals. With two blocks each were DeMeulenaere and Jackson Tegeler. The team was 16 of 41 for field goals, 2 of 18 for three-pointers and 6 of 15 for free throws. The team had 28 rebounds and 14 turnovers.

Belle Plaine (9-9) travels to English Valleys (10-6) on Tuesday, Jan. 26, and then goes to Sigourney (8-7) on Friday, Jan. 29.

The Belle Plaine girls’ basketball (9-5) picked up a non-conference win on Monday, Jan. 18, over East Marshall (3-9), 57-50.

Alyssa Tegeler scored 19 for Belle Plaine. Bree Shaull added 16. Tegeler had eight rebounds. Olivia Bohlen had 11 assists and six steals. The team was 22 of 52 for field goals, 2 of 14 for three-pointers and 11 of 23 for free throws. The team had 28 rebounds and 12 turnovers.
