Benton Community picked up a big WaMaC win on Tuesday, Jan. 19, defeating Center Point-Urbana, 50-47, in girls’ basketball action in Van Horne.

Jenna Twedt scored 19 for Benton. McKenna Kramer had 10 points, with 3 of 7 shooting for three-pointers. Kramer also had five rebounds. Peyton Pfiffner had three steals. Alyse Harvey had three assists. The team was 16 of 51 for field goals, 7 of 26 for three-pointers and 11 of 18 for free throws. The team had 31 rebounds and 15 turnovers

Benton hosts Williamsburg on Friday, Jan. 22, and Union at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, in Van Horne.

Benton Community had a huge second quarter on its way to a 68-44 win over Williamsburg, in WaMaC basketball action Jan. 22 at Van Horne.

Jenna Twedt scored 22 for Benton. Alyse Harvey added 12 and Emma Townsley had 10. Twedt also had six rebounds. Peyton Pfiffner had three assists. Harvey had two steals. The team was 23 of 47 for field goals, 10 of 23 for three-pointers and 12 of 14 for free Throws. Benton had 22 rebounds and nine turnovers.

Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021 at Van Horne

Benton won a non-conference game over Union (1-13) in a Saturday afternoon girls’ basketball game, Jan. 23, at Van Horne, 53-27.

McKenna Kramer had 20 for Benton with 5 of 9 shooting for three-pointers. Twedt addded 16. Zoey Junge had five rebounds. Twedt had seven assists and five steals. The team was 20 of 56 for field goals, 8 of 28 for three-pointers and 5 of 5 for free throws. Benton had 30 rebounds and six turnovers.

Benton hosts South Tama (0-11) this Tuesday, Jan. 26 at Van Horne, and travels to Solon (12-4) on Friday, Jan. 29.

Benton Community’s boy’s basketball team battled Center Point-Urbana, Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Center Point, losing in WaMaC action, 50-43.

Colin Buch scored 13 for Benton. With five rebounds each were Kyler Mahan and Aiden Harris. With two assists each were Buch and Blake Daugherty. Harris blocked two shots. The team was 17 of 43 for field goals, 5 of 17 for three-pointers and 4 of 9 for free throws. The team had 22 rebounds and 12 turnovers.

Benton Community lost in WaMaC boys’ basketball action Friday, Jan. 22, at Williamsburg (6-8), 56-44.

Blake Daugherty led Benton with 17 points, with 5 of 7 shooting for three-pointers. Isaac Cretin had five assists. Harris had three steals. Cretin also had 10 rebounds. The team was 18 of 45 for field goals, 6 of 18 for three-pointers and 2 of 3 for free throws. They had 26 rebounds and 14 turnovers.

Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021 at Van Horne

Benton faced Union (5-9) in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 23, losing narrowly in boys’ basketball action, 55-53.

Buch led Benton with 14 points. Harris added 10 and Daugherty had 10. With seven rebounds each sere Harris, Cretin and Noah Franck. With three assists each were Buch and Kyler Mahan. Harris also blocked two shots. The team was 17 of 35 from the field, 7 of 15 for three-pointers and 12 of 17 for free throws. The team had 38 rebounds and 18 turnovers.

Benton travels to South Tama (1-8) on Tuesday, Jan. 26, and hosts Solon (13-1) on Friday, Jan. 29.
