Supervisors meet new HR director and Veterans Affairs director

VINTON – It was routine business for the Benton County Board of Supervisors when they met Tuesday, May 25, at the service center in Vinton.

A land use hearing was set for Tuesday, June 22, at 9:15 a.m., for Dan Wirtanen, for land in Parcel A, Section 15, Fremont Township.

A fireworks permit was approved for Steve Rippel on June 19, at 2294 53rd St., Mt. Auburn.

The board went into closed session regarding an employee contract with a new Human Resources Coordinator. They met with County Attorney David Thompson. Kirsten Nelson is the new coordinator.

Committee members were appointed and a special revenue fund was set up for the American Rescue Plan (ARP). Money is coming in this fiscal year and next fiscal year. On the committee are elected officials and department heads, plus Supervisor Chair Tracy Seeman.

Taxes were abated for several parcels of land along Highway 30.

Veterans Affairs Director Toni Parizek introduced the new director, Cara Martin, Vinton. She started on May 24. Training continues throughout the week. She will take over on Tuesday, June 1.

The board approved a variance to the subdivision ordinance for Parcel A, Sections 16 and 21, Iowa Township.

A plan was approved for RCB Culvert Replacement for a twin box on E-24.

The annual service contract with the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG) was approved. This is for transportation.
