Van Horne Community Newsletter
Greetings Van Horne Area Residents!
As we know Iowa weather goes from one extreme to another. Maybe if I mention a lawn mowing day like I mentioned tree trimming last summer, it will start to rain.
Slowly things are getting back to normal from the pandemic, events are happening, people visiting along the streets, little league and high schools sports with spectators, as well as Lions club breakfasts.
We decided that if you have planted new trees since the derecho, that you can signup at City Hall for reduced sewer rates. We will discount $5 per tree per month to your water bill.
Hopefully also next month we will have our Van Horne tree giveaway details from our grant we are getting. We hope to have sizes, varieties etc. for July’s newsletter. Thanks to Darcy and Linda for working on this.
We continue to have fewer blue tarps and missing siding in town. Hopefully contractors will finish everyone up before winter. We are also seeing some small theft problems happening in town. People are stealing catalytic converters off of vehicles as well as also siphoning gas. Keep your eyes and ears open so we can get this stopped before it escalates.
The update at the sewer plant is slowly trudging along, but has to be done before winter.
With the Fourth of July approaching, this months thought for the month is patriotic and from an unknown. “We will stand by the right, we will stand by the true, we will live, we will die for the red white and blue.”
Thanks and have a great rest of the month as well as summer. Your Mayor Marty
Dates On Deck
June 29 Senior Citizen Luncheon at Noon @ Community Center (WELCOME BACK)
July 12 City Council Meeting at 6:30 p.m.
June 5 City Wide Garage Sales
- There has been a lot of discussion regarding the 103 Main St. Mary is hoping someone creative can help her come up with a name for the market. Anyone with a good idea can give her a call 560-5258. She is also hoping to host a Farmers Market coming this FALL. Stay tuned for updates.
- The City has been asked to ask residents if they could refrain from blowing grass clippings onto the alley and roadways when mowing. This is a HUGE hazard for bikes and motorcycles.
