Benton (21-18) had 14 hits against No. 11 West Delaware, (27-9) Monday, July 5, in their closing WaMaC contest. Emma Townsley was 2 for 4. Gabby McKee was 2 for 4 with a double. Ana Glawe added a double. Katelyn Buscher had a singe. Alyse Harvey was 3 for 4 with a double and one RBI. Hannah Greiner was 3 for 4. Hope Moore added a single. Brielle Hogan was 1 for 3 with a triple and one RBI. The team had three strikeouts and two walks. The team had six errors. Jessa DeMoss took the loss, throwing 4 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, four runs (three earned), and walking two. Hope Moore closed for 1 2/3 innings, allowing no hits, no runs walking two and striking out one.

West Delaware 7, Benton 3

The Lady Bobcats had eight hits in the second game. They had one walk and no strikeouts. Townsley was 2 for 3. McKee was 1 for 4. Glawe was 2 for 4 with one RBI. Harvey was 1 for 3. Greiner was 1 for 3. DeMoss was 1 for 1. The team had three errors. Buscher took the loss, throwing two innings, allowing six hits, five runs (three earned), walking no one and striking out one. Greiner threw for three innings, allowed four hits, and two runs (one earned). Jessa DeMoss threw one inning, and walked on batter.

Benton hosts the winner of the Fort Madison (13-17) vs. Burlington (20-13) game on Saturday, July 10, at 7 p.m. in Van Horne, in Class 4A Region 5 softball action. Fort Madison and Burlington play Thursday at Burlington.

Benton had two hits in the first game, with singles from Cade Timmerman and Easton Patterson. The team had six strikeouts and no walks. They had one error. Aidan Thompson started on the mound and took the loss. He pitched two innings, allowed six hits, seven runs (five earned), walked six and struck out four. Dillon Kerkman pitched for two innings, allowed three hits, three runs (two earned), walked three and struck out one.

Benton 12, Center Point-Urbana 4

The Bobcats had 17 hits in the second game. They struck out three times and walked three times. Timmerman was 3 for 5 with a double. Easton Patterson was 3 for 4 with one RBI. Albertsen was 3 for 5 with one RBI. Evan Daugherty was 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Cael Kaestner was 2 fo 5 with one RBI. Aidan Thompson was 1 for 3. Casey Gallagher was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. The team had no errors. Lane Kaestner started and picked up the win. He threw for six innings, allowed eight hits, three earned runs, walked three and struck out four. Landen Schmuecker threw for one inning, allowed three hits, and one earned run.

Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Marion

Marion 10, Benton 8

Benton had eight hits in the WaMaC loss to Marion. Cade Timmerman was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Easton Patterson was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Aiden Albertsen was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Cael Kaestner was 1 for 4. Aiden Thompson was 1 for 3. The team had eight strikeouts and seven walks. The team had two errors. Zane Frese took the loss, throwing for one inning, allowing two hits, two earned runs, and striking out one. Casey Gallagher threw for 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits, eight runs (five earned), walking one, hitting four batters and striking out five. Hunter Vargason threw for 1/3 of an inning and allowed no hits.

Wednesday, July 7 2021, at Van Horne

Benton had three hits in non-conference action against East Marshall. Patterson had a single. Gallagher was 1 for 2 with one RBI. Aiden Thompson was 1 for 3 with one RBI. Benton had five strikeouts and five walks. The team had one error. Patterson threw for five innings and took the loss. He allowed eight hits, four earned runs, hit two batters and struck out three. Jordan Thys threw for two innings, allowed two hits, two runs (one earned), walked two and struck out two.

BC plays two at home on Thursday, July 8 against South Tama. They host Monticello on Monday, July 12, and play Davenport Assumption in Davenport on Tuesday, July 13.
